Peru’s domestic workers trade union demands ratification of ILO Convention 189

 Delegates of the Federación Nacional de Trabajadoras y Trabajadores del Hogar del Perú, FENTTRAHOP from seven different regions, got together in Lima on 27 March to demand that the convention which guarantees their most basic rights as workers be finally ratified. Convention 189 has been ratified by a number of countries, but not by Peru or the UK.

Red Thread to launch self-help support service for domestics

Red Thread organisation will later this month launch the Cora and Clotil Self-help Information and Support Service for domestic workers and other low-waged women.

The organisation made the announcement yesterday in a statement issued to welcome Guyana’s ratification of ILO Convention #189, which recognises domestic workers as workers.
