Video: Prisoners and FIPs v the USA - Anti-capitalism Behind Bars
From Troy Davis to Mumia Abu-Jamal and Bradley Manning, from the Pelican Bay Hunger Strikers to the Georgia Prison Strike and the Formerly Incarcerated Persons (FIPs), anti-capitalist leadership has come from inside the Prisonhouse of nations, and from the families campaigning outside. Many rebellious young people and movement points of reference are locked up in what are in effect concentration camps. We want them back! We need them back! (Workshop at the Left Forum, March 17)
Speakers:
Selma James chaired the workshop
Rev. Edward Pinkney, leader of the struggle in Benton Harbor Michigan against Whirlpool
Victoria Law, prison activist and author of Resistance Behind Bars: The Struggles of Incarcerated Women
Theresa Shoats, activist daughter of Black Panther Russell “Maroon” Shoats, movement theoretician, in prison for 35 years
Eric Gjertsen, Payday men’s network, campaigning internationally with those Refusing to Kill or Be Killed: refuseniks, prisoners, and the families, mainly women, who spearhead defense campaigns.
Frances Goldin, Mumia Abu-Jamal's literary agent and an activist for his freedom
Selma James
Co-ordinator of Global Women's Strike
