Peru’s domestic workers trade union demands ratification of ILO Convention 189

Delegates of the Federación Nacional de Trabajadoras y Trabajadores del Hogar del Perú, FENTTRAHOP from seven different regions, got together in Lima on 27 March to demand that the convention which guarantees their most basic rights as workers be finally ratified. Convention 189 has been ratified by a number of countries, but not by Peru or the UK.

FENTTRAHOP is affiliated to the Global Women’s Strike (GWS) and on 30 March 2015, International Domestic Workers Day, they will launch the GWS’s ‘Living Wage for Mothers and Other Carers’ petition. General secretary Leddy Mozombite will read it loud.
