Action Alert: Fantastic News & More urgent help needed for lesbian couple seeking asylum

On International Women’s Day we got the fantastic news that Amanpreet Kaur was released from detention in Yarl’s Wood IRC. Ms Kaur is a lesbian woman who was detained for three months and twice threatened with imminent removal when the authorities refused to let her make an asylum claim based on the persecution she fears if returned to India. She and her partner Ms D are now fighting for the right to asylum in the UK and need your help.

Picket: Stop rape, detention and deportations!

Italian Embassy, Tuesday, 8 June ,1-2pm, 14 Three Kings Yard, London W1K 4EH

On 8 June, a charge of attempted rape brought by Ms Joy N against chief of police inspector Vittorio Addesso of Milan CIE (Centre for Identification and Expulsion) Detention Centre in Italy, will be heard in court.

In August 2009, Mr Addesso tried to rape Ms Joy N, a young Nigerian woman, while she slept in the detention centre he runs. Her cellmate and three other women intervened and stopped the rape.
