Include in the People's Agenda the RISE Out of Poverty Act and A Living Wage for Mothers & other Caregivers

Proposal from the National Welfare and Caregiving Working Group

The RISE out of Poverty Act and
A Living Wage for Mothers & other Caregivers

Every worker should be paid a living wage, including mothers and other caregivers. Caring for others is the foundation of every society, yet this work is devalued and underfunded. Investing in caregivers redirects economic and social policies towards survival, health and wellbeing -- for every individual and for the planet that sustains us all. This is crucial to creating a caring economy at the service of human beings rather than human beings at the service of the economy.

The Global Women's Strike at the People's Summit in Chicago June 17-19

Circulated at the People's Summit in Chicago, June 17-19, 2016.

The GLOBAL WOMEN'S STRIKE is a grassroots multiracial network campaigning for recognition and payment for all caregiving work, and the return of military spending to the community, starting with women, the main caregivers everywhere. We aim to cross divisions of sex, race, class, nationality, immigration status, age, disability, occupation, sexuality ... Men who share our aims are part of our network. Invest in caring, not killing sums up our perspective. We are based in a number of countries including India, Ireland, Peru, UK and US, and are non-party political.
