Progressive Caucus, Speaker Pelosi, Senator Manchin, President Biden! Mothers & grandmothers say: We need the Child Tax Credit (CTC) for all our children!

The lives of millions of children have been dramatically improved as they are lifted out of poverty by their mothers receiving CTC. (See: census.gov). It begins to recognize the life-sustaining work of mothers and other unwaged family caregivers. It has raised the standard of living for families across the US.

As Congress negotiates the Build Back Better Act (sometimes called Reconciliation Act), some members, including Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV), are threatening to cut back crucial parts of the legislation and impose work requirements on families too poor to pay taxes – as if raising children is not work!

URGENT: The next round of CTC checks are due Friday. If Congress doesn’t act, the checks will end in December!

To save CTC for all our children, join us in letting the Progressive Caucus, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, Senator Joe Manchin, President Biden, and your Representatives know that CTC must:

• Be extended to at least 2025, include all poor children and remain fully refundable* – don’t punish poor kids!
• Have no work requirements – raising children is work.
• Include all immigrant children.
• Be paid directly to mothers/primary caregivers so children benefit.
• Be made permanent.

* “Fully refundable” means children qualify for the CTC regardless of the income or lack of income of their parents. (Payments per child decrease for incomes above $75,000/year for those filing as single parents, $112,500 for single heads of household, and $150,000 for married couples.) Also that receiving the CTC will not affect getting other federal benefits.
