Defend Ireland’s neutrality – keep the triple lock!
The Triple Lock is a key part of the current means of keeping Ireland out of wars. The Triple Lock means that to send more than 12 soldiers on an overseas mission, there needs to be approval from the Irish government, the Dáil and the UN (authorised by either the UN Security Council or the UN General Assembly). The current Irish government has spread false information, claiming that only the UN Security Council can authorize these missions so one or more of its members could veto a mission; but the UN Assembly can also authorize missions and there’s no veto there! It’s also been claimed that we can’t evacuate Irish citizens from overseas because of the Triple Lock – not true!

Calling all women to keep the triple lock and stop the government
from abandoning neutrality! Resist, sisters, resist!
- Taoiseach Michéal Martin said in 2013 that the Triple Lock is at the core of Irish neutrality: now the government wants to do away with it and lies that neutrality is not affected
- They want to significantly increase military spending in the arms industry, tripling Ireland’s military budget to 3 billion euros over the next few years
- They continue to allow the use of Irish airports and airspace to facilitate Israel’s genocide in Gaza: without the Triple Lock, this shameful complicity will only get worse
- Without the Triple Lock, soldiers from Ireland could end up involved in wars and illegal invasions to grab land and other resources – even becoming complicit in genocides like Gaza
- We women say + NO to War + NO to war hysteria + NO to slaughter + NO to the reproductive genocide in Gaza + NO to our children coming back in body bags + NO to our money being spent on weapons and killing!
- Our caring work is not to go for war. We want that money for people’s needs, starting with a care income, for all of those, regardless of gender, who are caring for people and the planet!
Women were at the heart of the anti-conscription campaign which resisted the
British government’s imposition of a military draft in Ireland for WW1.
We can do it again. We can stop this latest drift to war and military spending!
