Emergency Appeal for women in Burma/Myanmar

Dear sisters and friends,   Burma/Myanmar: Urgent Appeal for Donations   We enclose below the latest appeal from the Karen Women’s Organisation (KWO) which is working to ensure the survival of people in the Karen area of Burma/Myanmar. More than 1 million people have now been displaced by the extreme violence and killing of the military junta which took power in a coup in 2021.   We attach the latest report from KWO which describes how people in rural villages are suffering indiscriminate shelling and ground attacks by the Burmese junta soldiers. People forced to flee are hiding in forests and are hungry, tired and traumatised. KWO provides food, materials for temporary shelter, birthing supplies and hygiene materials etc. so that people can survive until they are able to return to their villages. KWO focuses on the needs of women and children in particular and at the same time organises to ensure women are included in community decision-making.   The Global Women’s Strike (GWS) has worked with KWO for a number of years and have met some of their members in person.  KWOs chairwoman, Naw Knyaw Paw, is joining the panel for an event later this month which GWS is helping organise: @myanmarconference2024 | Linktree.   We are confident that KWO is best placed to ensure that all aid reaches those who need it most. We make a regular monthly donation so that KWO can better plan what help it provides.   Any support you can give will help – both one-off donations and a monthly commitment if you are able. Donate here.   Thank you for your help and support,   Selma James
